THE COMMENTARY ON THE Manifesto of the Communist Party (1848) must exceed the word count of that little pamphlet by a factor of thousands, if not more. To this grand number is added another, A Spectre, Haunting: On The Communist Manifesto by British Marxist fantasy writer China Miéville.

Einige der größten Proteste des letzten Jahrzehnts hatten präfigurativen Charakter. Darunter Occupy und die Indignados-Bewegung (2011), die französischen zones à défendre (ZAD, 2011–18), die Gezi-Park-Proteste in Istanbul (2013), die Regenschirm-Bewegung in Hongkong (2014), die französische Versammlungsbewegung Nuit debout (2016), die Dakota Access Pipeline-Proteste in Standing Rock (2016) und die Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle (2020). Hinzu kommen die von Gruppen wie Extinction Rebellion und Ende Gelände organisierten Klimacamps. Die meisten dieser Proteste nahmen die Form einer Besetzung an und errichteten semi-permanente Protestcamps. Diese Camps dienten einem praktischen Zweck – sie ermöglichten es den Protestierenden, ihren Protest aufrechtzuerhalten –, aber sie dienten auch als Modell für eine alternative Gemeinschaft mit ihren eigenen Codes und Werten.
